ps. all but one of these are vitamins lol.
This week I went to the doctor to discuss getting my mental health back on track. I decided on my own that I wanted to give medication a try. I’ve been struggling with depression for about two years. At first, it was manageable but as of recently, it became an unbearable cycle of hopelessness – for no particular reason.
I knew that something had to be done. I needed to take a proactive approach and after weighing my options I decided that talking with my doctor about medication was the next step. during my visit my doctor prescribed me with 10mg of Celexa.
what’s Celexa you ask? here’s internet’s fancy description of it –
Citalopram is used to treat depression. It may improve your energy level and feelings of well-being. Citalopram is known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). This medication works by helping to restore the balance of a certain natural substance (serotonin) in the brain.
sounds great right ? however, my doctor did not just shove this prescription my way and bounce. she suggested I exercise often, eat a plant-based diet, meditate, take vitamins and do yoga. she said lifestyle changes go hand in hand with medication.
after my prescription – I honestly felt relieved. Like a weight had been lifted on my shoulders. After a few days – the world started to feel brighter. maybe I’m super susceptible to medication or it might be the placebo effect – but I think that I’m feeling so good because I took a proactive approach to a struggle I was facing. The reason why I’m sharing this is that I want to do my part in breaking down the stigma that surrounds mental health. although it isn’t entirely the solution it’s an important step. I encourage you to ask questions and be curious about your options! I will keep you updated on how I’m feeling in a month.
